I’ve written a personal blog/newsletter, in some capacity, for 15 years. I’ve loved it. I’ve learned about myself, developed my voice as a writer and connected with incredible people.
And right now, I’m choosing to hit pause on writing online.
Seminary is absorbing a lot of my extra mental and literal energy.
Along with that, my husband and I are expecting baby #3 mid-summer. We are so excited and preparing for baby’s arrival.
Suffice it to say, I’m simplifying excessively. Yesterday, I had the thought that I should just start buying all of my clothes at Costco to make life easier. Maybe it’s going a bit far.
But I digress. My point: I’m taking a hiatus here.
Now, similar to what I wrote in January, I’m under no illusion that these particulars matter to most you, ha! But I’ve become a big fan of defined beginnings/endings when they can be had. So, I want to leave this space well. I don’t know what will happen in the future. Maybe I’ll be back here after my class is over or baby arrives. Maybe I’ll follow a new fancy. Maybe, I’ll be gone for a while. We’ll see.
With that said, I want to close this post sharing a few current favorite things…
I’m listening to Matin by Jess Ray or Sanctuary Songs from The Porters Gate (almost) every morning.
I’ve been using the NLT Bible in a Year for my daily(ish) Bible reading and it’s been so good.
I’m nurturing my private reading life—little by little—amidst the books and articles on covenants, the Westminster confession, the doctrine of Scripture, etc. I re-listened to Pride and Prejudice and I’m listening to Harry Potter. I (finally) read A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting (so very, very fun!) and am blazing through the Veronica Speedwell series.
I’m planning my meals monthly and choosing mostly simple meals that always sound good and that I can make without a recipe. We’re enjoying tacos, hamburgers, dragon noodles and salmon on the regular. I’m also turning to my good pal Costco to stand in the dinner gap for me a night or two a week.
I’m so thankful for my community and the companionship I (and my family) have found. I’ve never (not once) regretted prioritizing community.
I’m reading a lot of picture books with my kids. These days, I’m absolutely enchanted by all things illustrated by Sophie Blackall and we’re doing Brighter Day Press’s March Book Madness. I’ve also started listening to Read Aloud Revival’s podcast again and it’s so very inspiring inspiring.
Books, meal planning, community, spiritual habits. Those are the things that are filling my days, and sharing that list feels a good way to hit pause for now.
As my literary friend Veronica Speedwell says,
Excelsior!
I survived 4 C-sec girl births in 5 years & Jack survived 4 teenagers & simultaneously a menopausal wife within a 4 year timeframe. We conferred sainthood on him - St Jack the Noble & Brave.
Too many people vanish from their online homes without a trace and those who cared about them are often left to wonder what happened. So thank you for the lovely good-bye.
I admire your plans and hopes and work for the future. oh, the baby ... sweet joy. Bless you on your journey forward, Abigail.
