My paid work is that of women’s ministry director at my church. I love it.
This academic year, we have 120+ women going through the book of Acts. Bible study started two weeks ago, and per usual, a lot of my energy in August and September goes to getting the Bible study train out of the station. Since that’s certainly what’s been on my mind the past few weeks (and the reason for my absence here), I thought I’d share the resources I’ve gathered for the study of Acts that I’m currently reading and listening to.1
We’re using The Village Institute’s Acts Study (authored by Kelsey Hency, Elizabeth Woodson, Nathan Campbell, Nate Elgin, and Jen Wilkin) and it’s doing what a good Bible workbook should do: getting us in the text. If you’d like more thoughts of this study’s strengths and weaknesses, DM me or let me know below if a review would be helpful.
I’m reading Nancy Guthrie’s “Saved” and I’ve been listening to her excellent companion podcast. I really loved THIS episode of the podcast.
I’m using the ESV Expository Commentary and it does a good job, especially when paired with Guthrie’s book.
I purchased “Knowing the Holy Spirit through the Old Testament” by Christopher Wright. I’ve barely cracked it open, but I’m excited to read it after so enjoying Wright’s “Knowing Jesus through the Old Testament.”
Finally, I made this playlist to pair with the study of Acts. We are oft commanded to sing in Scripture, and we would do well to heed that command, not only as an act of obedience, but for our own good. As I recently read, “we were made to sing, so when we do, we are blessed.”
Again, here’s a playlist on some of the themes in Acts, but is really for anyone. Here’s my favorite song from the playlist, and fitting for these final weeks leading to the election.
I’ve not finished any of these books listed. I’m sharing “in real time” which is something I rarely do, ha! So know that I’m speaking from limited knowledge of them.
