I do most of my fiction reading via Kindle in bed at night after my early riser husband goes to sleep. My favorite novel of the summer was Gilead by Marilynne Robinson.
I'm intrigued by the premise of The Chosen -- just recently bought a copy of his book My Name Is Asher Lev. And I love Earley's phrase "school of love". It comes to mind so much after reading that book. And, of course I love audiobooks. I didn't realize until having kids and staying home how much housework has to be done constantly, so the books help.
You’ll have to tell me what you think if you pick it up!
And yes! Just read an interview on Ivana Greco’s Substack where the stay-at-home parent said something along the lines of staying at home being challenging because it’s boring and stressful. That reflects my experience and audiobooks can take the edge off the boredom 🎧
I see our reading habits are very similar — audiobook fan here and also digital reader:) I also read 2-3 books at a time. I usually anchor my audiobook listening with exercise, which makes me look forward to that time more. I am mostly a nonfiction reader, who’s very picky about fiction. Learning to work on that;)
You’re even better than Goodreads, Abby! I read a bunch this summer. I’m just now finishing Island of the World by Michael O’Brien. An 800-page epic story that might take a long while for a busy mom to conquer :). But oh my, did I grow from it, and it goes on my very selective 5⭐️ fiction list.
I don't think I could receive a better compliment, Margaret!
And I'm going to look into that book! Not sure I have 800 pages in me right now, but if it's a five-star read, it's certainly worth adding to my To-Be-Read list!
I do most of my fiction reading via Kindle over breakfast, lunch, and then before bed, in bed. I did spend a fair amount of time this summer reading by the pool while my daughter swam.
My favorite novel of the summer was The Turtle House by Amanda Churchill.

I've tried to read Gilead numerous times, and I want to pick it up again. I'm thinking it might be just the right time in my life.

I love this, Paola! I think we’d be friends if we lived in the same city 🌆
Yes!! I feel the same and felt so when we connected in Michigan :)♥️

Thank you for the tips, again! And I just put Frozen River on hold at the library, sounds like a perfect book for this time of year as summer ends ♥️
I hope you enjoy!! And yes, a beautiful read to close the summer. And make one eager for cooler temperatures, ha!

I look to the future with bittersweetness when I realize I won’t have to be in the pool any longer my kids and I can read while they swim!
And I’ll have to check that title out! Thanks for sharing!
